Buckshots Boys

On the evening of Saturday, March 26^th, 2011 a Dinner was held to honor Robert “Frog” Young at the Iguana

Restaurant on Lake Travis in Austin, Tx.

Who is Robert “Frog” Young?

Robert Young was born and raised in Beckley, West Virginia and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1957. He received his teaching degree from West Virginia Tech in Montgomery, WV in 1962. He taught and coached in the WV public school system for 30 years and has been retired for 15 years.

While looking at the WWHS home page he came across the name of Clarence Underwood and that name rang a bell. He recalled other coaches and athletics talking about a coach by the name of ”Buckshot” Underwood. He became interested in the stories of “Buckshot” and did some intensive research on the man.

Over a period of time Coach “Frog” Young became friends with Jimmy Maxfield, a former Thomas Jefferson High School Yellow Jacket football player, who now lives in Houston, TX. Jimmy arranged for a get together of former “Jackets” to honor Coach Young. On March 26^th, 2011 a dinner was given for Coach “Frog” at the Iguana Restaurant on Lake Travis, in Austin, TX. Former Yellow Jacket players from the Underwood era were invited.

The dinner was nice and ended with Coach Frog giving another tribute to our beloved Coach Clarence “Buckshot” Underwood.
